Extravagant birds is a community art project led by artist Veronica Phillips.

Funded through Surf Coast Shire Council’s Arts Development Seed Fund, Veronica worked with Deans Marsh and Winchelsea schools to bring to life the need for habitat protection for endangered species in farming and regional communities.

Students used farm waste – wire, haybale twine, metal, plastic and found objects such as tap heads and hose nozzles – to make sculptures about the region’s threatened bird species whose habitat is at risk when waste is not disposed of properly.
